As of 2007, after decades of deferred maintenance and downsizing, the rail industry in Noth America is undergoing a Renaissance. This growth is fueled by a consumer driven global economy and our nations insatiable demand for energy.  Inter-modal and unit coal trains pulled by the best designs EMD & GE can offer are keeping it on the schedule.

Interestingly, asside for investment in motive power, rolling stock and signal systems, the infrastructure, bridges, towers, structures, have not changed. This is especially true in the Eastern United States. The right of way has not changed significantly. except for some line clearnace programs. Many of these historic and beautiful structures have provided well over a century of service. Many are being razed and will slip from memory...
